Make Sure Your Slash is Positive!

February 20, 2017

We’re well over halfway through the Sugar Slash and hopefully you’re seeing some of the benefits of life without added sugar. However, sometimes in a challenge like this, people can actually come away worse than when they started. How?The biggest issue is thinking about all the foods you can’t eat, and developing a negative attitude toward food. Instead, focus on all the good foods you can eat, and load up on your favs when you’re grocery shopping. Another issue could be replacing foods with added sugar, with unhealthy sugar free foods. Replacing a cookie with a beer is not healthy. Replacing a bit of dark chocolate with a bag of corn chips is no good. If this is you, don’t go 100% added sugar free for the month. Instead, try to go 5 out of 7 days without sugar, and eat healthy on those 5 days.A few years ago I did the 21 Day Sugar Detox. If you think the Sugar Slash is intense, look up the 21DSD. While the principle of the 21DSD was good, I came away from the experience worse than when I started. I was so grumpy the whole 21 days and just got angry with all the restrictions. My attitude toward food was not healthy at all. So make sure you Slash smartly-you can modify it as you need just like you can modify the workouts in the gym. If you need to make changes so that the Slash is a positive, make the changes. Remember, you should be striving for improvement, not perfection!
