Nutrition 101

February 13, 2019

It can be frustrating that nutrition isn’t simple:High Fat vs Low Fat.High Carb vs Low Carb.Eat More Protein.Get Your Macros Right. It’s overwhelming! In fact, why are there so many “diets” with so many people advocating their benefits? The answer is that every body is different, both physiologically and psychologically. However, there are two very simple tenets we should all follow that will make a big difference, regardless of your unique dietary needs.

  1. Eat less sugar. It’s simple. In fact, it’s so simple we sometimes pass over it because we prefer the fancy marketing of something more complex. STOP EATING SO MUCH ADDED SUGAR! Aim for less than 25 grams of added sugars per day. Sound easy? Track it for a day and see where you end up.
  2. Eat more unprocessed foods. Again, simple. Again, too easy to overlook. There’s no magic amount here, but log your foods for a few days, maybe even a week and see how many unprocessed foods you eat. Then, make a plan to slowly increase the amount, while simultaneously cutting back on your processed foods.

Are you up for the challenge? Bring your food log with you to 212 and share with the class. Nothing like accountability to help us get on track!
