Sugar Slash Bonus Points + Date Sweetened BBQ Sauce

February 22, 2017

We’re on the final stretch of our Sugar Slash- just one week to go!To keep things interesting, we have an opportunity to get some bonus points over the next week. You can get 1 bonus point/sticker for every recipe you make and share that we have sent out this month. There a bunch to choose from, (cinnamon apples, salmon with pesto, brownies, parfaits, protein shake, quinoa, roasted cauliflower ). Why the extra points? Because we want to incentivize you to get out of your comfort zone and realize that you can continue to eat well (even past February!) without sugar in your life. These recipes are actually really good, and often, very easy to make. (For those of you who have accused me of not having taste buds, it’s important to know that Jamie typically is the one to test/develop/approve any of our recipes before they go out J) To get the points, just make the recipe and share a pic on our facebook main page or Instagram (@212fitness) with hashtag #212sugarslash.Here’s one more recipe for the month we think you will love! We made this to put on ribs for the Superbowl and when we compared it side by side with traditional (read: brown sugar sweetened) barbecue sauce, most of us preferred the date sweetened version!Date Sweetened BBQ SauceSlightly adapted from here15 oz can Tomato Sauce1 cup Pitted Dates (approximately 8 Mejdool)2 tablespoons Tomato Paste2 tablespoons Soy Sauce1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar1 teaspoon paprika1 teaspoon garlic powder2 tablespoons finely diced onions, sautéed in olive oil until softSalt and Pepper to taste
